Borealis the North Wind has conjured up an icy squall to play with this 16th century merchant ship.
Borealis is based on Boreas, the Greek god of the north wind and of winter. He carried off Oreithyia, the mountain gale, for his wife. She bore him several children, including Khione, the goddess of snow and the Boreades, twins who chased off the Harpies. Boreas is frequently shown on antique maps and charts.
This is one of a series of four works, of which three are in preparation. Each will feature a different wind god.
